Young Innovators Take Centre Stage at the 2026 ZAMREN Student Hackathon

Innovation, creativity and problem-solving took centre stage during the 2026 ZAMREN Student Hackathon as university students from across Zambia showcased technology-driven solutions aimed at addressing real-world challenges.

Held as part of the 2026 ZAMREN Week and AGM in Livingstone, the hackathon once again demonstrated the growing potential of young innovators in shaping Zambia’s digital future.

Now in its second year since its introduction at 2025 ZAMREN Week, the initiative continues to evolve into a dynamic platform where students are challenged to think beyond the classroom and develop practical solutions through technology.

This year’s competition focused on two categories namely Zambia Digital ID and AgriTech Solutions.

In the Zambia Digital ID category, ZCAS University emerged as the first prize winner, while Mulungushi University secured second place.

ZCAS University also claimed first prize in the AgriTech Solutions category, with the University of Lusaka taking second place.

The hackathon grand finale attracted delegates, technology experts, institutional leaders and innovators who witnessed students pitch ideas designed to respond to challenges affecting communities and industries.

Beyond competition, the hackathon highlighted the importance of critical thinking and innovation in preparing young people for an increasingly digital world.

The initiative also reflects ZAMREN’s growing commitment towards creating platforms that empower students to experiment, innovate and contribute meaningfully to Zambia’s digital transformation agenda.
